Morning Routine

Most people assume I wake up in a peaceful, glowing state every morning, with soft music in the background, sunlight streaming in, and a smile already waiting on my face.

But the truth? I wake up in a fog.

Most mornings, I’m grumpy, quiet, and not ready to interact with anyone. My thoughts feel tangled. My mood is unpredictable. And if someone tries to talk to me before I’m ready… well, let’s just say it takes everything in me not to retreat into myself and shut down.

For a long time, I thought something was wrong with me. Why couldn’t I be one of those joyful morning people? Why did it take me so long to “feel like myself” after waking up?

Eventually, I realized something important:

My mornings weren’t the problem. I just wasn’t giving myself what I needed.

Some people wake up energized. I wake up needing space, quiet, and a gentle pathway into the day. My brain doesn’t switch on instantly. My heart doesn’t feel open the moment my eyes open. And that’s completely okay.

What matters is how I choose to meet myself in those first few minutes.

Why Positive Intentions Matter (Even When You’re Grumpy)

Setting gentle intentions in the morning isn’t about pretending to feel chipper or slapping positivity onto exhaustion. It’s about offering yourself a soft landing, a moment to breathe before you jump into responsibilities, conversations, and expectations.

For people like me, people who wake up foggy, slow-moving, and a little prickly, that first touchpoint with yourself becomes essential.

A morning intention is like saying:

“Before I meet the world, I want to meet myself with kindness.”

It can be as simple as:

  • “I will move gently today.”

  • “I’m allowed to take things slow.”

  • “One small act of care is enough.”

Positive intentions aren’t about perfection. They’re about direction — nudging your heart toward steadiness, softness, and clarity as you come back to yourself.

My Morning Ritual (and Why I Needed It)

My own morning practice doesn’t look fancy. There’s no elaborate tea ceremony or perfectly timed meditation. Most days, I just need:

  • A quiet moment

  • A warm drink

  • A few deep breaths

  • And a soft prompt that helps me check in with how I’m actually feeling

That’s why I created the Morning Soft Start (free resource): I needed something small, gentle, and doable, even on mornings when my mood is stubborn, and my energy is low.

It helps me ask:

  • How am I arriving today?

  • What’s one tiny thing I can do that won’t overwhelm me?

  • What encouragement do I need to hear right now?

These answers shift everything for me. Not instantly but gradually, consistently, lovingly.

A Final Thought

You don’t have to wake up cheerful to have a good day. You don’t have to leap out of bed with motivation. You don’t have to force joy before you’re ready.

You just need one soft moment. One breath. One intention.

Meet yourself gently in the morning, even if you wake up in a fog. Especially then.

Soft starts create soft days. And soft days create room for peace.
